early this year, i got a call from an old friend of mine

she's getting married and wanted an art work done in appreciation to her parents

she's getting married

so that's what i've been busy about

apart from all these packing and moving ordeal

thou things at the end turn out all good

but as of right now

one by one the wave just hit, each bigger than the last

hopefully things will all turn out stable again by the end of the month

anyway, here it is

just a short update,

mid way through the start of 2010

and i have like hundreds of things that's going on in my life right now

am currently doing a comic work for a friend's wedding

i love comic works

just hate the time consuming part

= i gotta sit down here and draw and draw till my ass is flat

but seeing the results after each frame is :)

totally worth all the long hours

another f-cked up thing is

the landlady suddenly say gotta move out

owner raising rent price to beyond acceptable

so i'm in the midst of finding a place to stay

while am also finding time to finally settle my student pass

gotta do all the medical check up shit

and find time to go to the ICA

plus haf to slot in time to view places to stay at

plus haf to come back at home to continue drawing

as much as i thrive having so much things going on in my life

moving out is one thing i hate

july 2009 marks the busiest photography journey i had for last year

filled with shoots after shoots :)

which is all great !

and so

here they are !

super long post ahead !

july started when i was still in medan,

took a short family getaway to sibolangit

the theme park there

shot briefly :D

as i always do back home

more self shoot

experimenting with lights and all :)

then had a shoot with these amazing people

shot a conceptual theme i've always wanted to try on

"dare to dream"

the concept revolves around people

who simply and literally

dare to dream

regardless of who how or why

i believe that people gotta dream to achieve

u gotta have an aim

the shoot revolves around these people

who, don't have much but dares to dream to be what they want to be

it ain't complete

what i have in mind is something so much greater than this

so i was kind of a more like a test shoot for this concept than anything else

behind of the scene video of the shoot !

had a one day shoot with queen

quite an exclusive and secretive shoot thou =x

so never share any of the results

but eventually found one that i can share :)

gave a brief photography workshop after the shoot at night which lasted till midnight =x

flew back to singapore to attend the president's performers concert

met with singapore's two top leaders and their wives

president sr. nathan

and

prime minister lee hsien loong

managed to grab a shot with prime minister lee

organized an outing to changi boardwalk with the members before i left to bali :D

spent some rainy yet amazing 6 days 5 nights in bali

definitely will go back there to shoot more !

don't care

3 times been to bali

3 times rainy all the way

will keep going back till the heavens are by my side !

shot hendra and winda's pre-wedding part 1 the following day after i get back to singapore from bali

their part two will be shot next month and i'm all excited !

my holiday started in june

and i took quite a holiday XD

went to chinese garden to scout out for location

a very much postponed late update i shall say

the previous week has been rather hectic

with a few changes in my life

thus trying to settle down a little bit more

so i shall say something eh

the year 2009 ended greatly

it's been an awesome awesome year

all the way from january up till december

2009 by far has been filled with amazing memories i don't think i'll ever forget

and for that

i know

2010 will be better

things will rise

and now

coming in on the 4th day of 2010

i've finally completed my resume !

another update is that

my body clock i think is finally switched to normal

i get tired before 12

which means now i'm overworking

i'm kinda very sleepy now

the personal deadlines i set is what's pushing me on

and i wake up early

i even have time to have breakfast !

and i'm loving it

2010 is gonna be great !

on the 2nd day

i confirmed my first work of 2010 :)

and is quite excited to work towards it !

2010 will be awesome

i know it

and i wish and hope

here's what happened in March !

shot some student life stuff at school

went to have sakae sushi buffet with stefen
the both of us finished off some 42 plates !

organized the 2nd sim photography club's photo exhibition at school

been wanting to shoot under the rain
but somehow it never ever rains whenever i'm out to shoot : /
so i used the shower thing to shoot "male" !

then the reddest sunset i've ever shot at level 22 on the 22nd !

bought the fujifilm instax !

wow

the response were great :)

though there's so much more things missing in the shoot from what i've had in my head

lighting wise : /

my remote trigger went off of batt during the shoot which kinda limits my lighting capabilities

anyway

to spend christmas and new year there

a few things to say

i'm officially 10 days away to home

will finally be flying back home on the 21st nov

the previous months had been a really hectic one

my bali trip seems so darn long away

am totally exhausted again

and in these 10 days

i'm a creative director for the SIM International Night 2009 event

i hope i can have 3 more photoshoots before i leave

leaving this time round marks my end of the year here in singapore

will only be back in 2010

it's been an amazing amazing year

i couldn't ask for more

went to the bird park

finally decided to force myself to go out and shoot

been some time really

and i really needed the time

yeap

finally took the 7d out as well

and i think i need some time to get use to it

a few buttons at different places

and it kinda slowed me down

either that

or i'm really getting rusty

aight,

let's talk a little regarding the 7d

hmm

colour information wise

i feel there's quite a difference with my 50d

some turned out differently as i thought it'd come out

may be because of the new auto lighting optimizer or something

tried the acclaimed new al servo mode and i thought it was pretty quite amazing

but then again, i'm not an al servo shooter and never had been

even when shooting birds in flight,

i've always been a one shot shooter

so can't really say much

just thought it was quite an ease shooting with al servo

noise control wise,

i'm astonished really

the pictures you are about to see

are all shot at ISO higher than 800

throughout the very cloudily gloomy day

i shot with ISO ranging from 1000, 1600 and all the way up to 6400

and so we shall see what's 6400 look like much later

the following pictures

are shot at ISO 1000 - 1600

the first picture with some noise was intended

i added then intentionally for its feel so can take that pic out of judgement

anyway

it has served me well

usually this is the time
when my night turns to day

and day turn to night

but with other additional things that's piling up

i'm really lost of track of time and day

everything seems so darn long ago

canon photo marathon seems like a month ago

and bali seems so darn long ago

the schedule is really tight

this is the time when self-discipline is of utmost important

hopefully

all things will go as i've planned

hopefully

i can be a little more discipline this time round

Canon Photomarathon 2009 Singapore

it's a sleepless night

after finally managed to force myself to sleep for 2 hours plus

i changed, bathed, prepared and left for the competition

the Canon Photomarathon 2009

as announced

over 1,400 people joined this year

though it didn't seemed that it's some 1,400

seemed like last year were more

anyway

so yeah

reached around 8 am at Suntec City

gather here and there

and before the competition began

the usual group shot

photo shamelessly stolen from Clubsnap =x

and so the first wait begun

as people came and register

we waited

and then they announced it

first theme of the day

"TOGETHERNESS"

well, after a little of brainstorming

this thing straight away hit me

i don't know why i didn't even bother to think about any other thing

but i just went off to Mc D

took a couple of sugar sachet

and started shooting these

yeap

ants

and that was all that is hot for the theme

ants and more ants

fired off some 50 over pics of them i think

finally chose the one above to be submitted

as i was queuing to submit my this photo

i was discussing with my fren on what'll the next theme will be

"speed" she said

"movement" i predicted

and not long after that

they announced the 2nd theme

pretty close eh ?

at first i thought it'd be an easy theme

coz i'd also like to think myself of a photographer who's doing really not bad at all in the technique of panning

but then after more thoughts

i knew that 50% of the participants will definitely be submitting a picture of panning as well

as i saw more and more people setting up their tripods

i decided to shoot something else

then cannot think of any other thing

so i decided to just make my panning shot somewhat more different than others

i shot this at first

then followed by this

and finally this which i submitted

well

a little confusion there

i thought the cut off point for submitting photos were 2.30

so i quickly shot

and just submit

apparently haf to wait till 4 pm -.-"

so we shoot shoot around

haha

and then i saw this

my ants photo kana shortlisted !

so was quite ok

quite happy

quite satisfied a bit

but wasn't really expecting a win

thought the other shots were much better

so had to push for the final theme lor

coz i knew my 2nd theme sure also cannot make it one

and then went down for lunch

when i got back up

saw a lot of people come out liao

means theme 3 come out liao

to my -.-" - ness i found out the theme 3 was

"ENERGY"

like....

so tired

slept 2 hours+ onli

but then

not long after that

i knew

i was gonna make this shot

i went off to marina square to hunt for a torch light

got it

borrowed Desmond's tripod

and started firing off and painting with light

then this

before finally i got this
of which i submitted

very dragonballish

was too tired to think for more

helped around the guys' shot

then got back to Suntec City

submit photo

and the waiting time begin

went to clean the sensor and lens thing while waiting

then they started putting up the shortlisted photo of theme 3

and mine weren't there

disappointed a bit

went to sit to finally rest and wait

then i got the call from fai ming

saying my photo's been shortlisted again

happy

and not long after that

the prize announcement began

the canon photomarathon is tomorrow

i'm gotta study some 10 other chapters for my exams

i have some 10 over designs to make by end of next week

i have 3 other photo folders i have to finish editing by end of this week

i'm planning to work for an event from the 17th - 24th oct

all of these

haf to be done within these 18 days

it's gonna be some super stressful sleepless pms-ing 18 days.

am i suppose to be like under super a lot a lot a lot of pressure ?

october used to be a relatively quite free month for me

well, other than time spent studying away

shooting really random things

my random neighborhood stray cats series usually will appear somewhere around here

and wishing friends happy birthdays,

it's really quite a relatively free october

i don't think my october has ever been so busy before

the 3 weeks ahead

will be truly a self-discipline time management test to the max

but then

i'm quite really happy that all of these things are going on to my life

despite all,

i've managed sketch out two concepts for my holiday shoots when i'm back home and am seriously looking very much forward towards it

anyway

here's some more photos from the botanic garden :)

there'll be another last entry after this !

i have at least 10 different things going on in my life right now that i need to pay attention to

and i'm really happy for some reason

thou i'm extremely tired now

at least i'm not going around pms-ing

some place some where has improved

and i'm glad

at the end of each day

i feel truly appreciated

and grateful

and i truly sincerely thank all of those around me

for all the support

2 years or so ago

when i had just started off with photography

i remembered

i'll go out and shoot almost daily

alone.

i'd spent the entire day, from open to close at the zoo, jurong bird park and the botanic garden

or i'll just take a walkabout around the cityhall area

and just shoot whatever i find interesting

often

i'll come back home with thousands of pictures

75% of which will end up at the trash bin

since getting to know more and more photography enthusiast friends

the chances of me shooting alone had been slim to rare

the last time i went out to shoot alone

i realized

i should do it more often

shooting alone

bring me back to myself

i find peace

i can concentrate more

and i see more things

something

somehow

i truly enjoy

a little bit emo i know

but i like the peacefulness :)

and i shall say, i've learnt quite a lot of things from shooting alone

i had a little free time just now

and since my exams are coming up

i decided to go off

to the botanic garden

will be giving out a Basic Photography workshop tomorrow at school

the Leica

as of now

i think i'll add this little thing to show you what camera i'm actually using to shoot the pictures i'll be displaying in the subsequent posts

and for this one

it'd be this

well

i've been wanting to buy a compact compact camera for a while now

actually i have a few compacts

2 compacts previously to be precise

but then

their size

to me

isn't compact at all man

Canon Powershot D10

bought it for all the underwater pictures

and especially for my Bali trip the other time

Canon Powershot G9

Won it two years ago from the Canon Photo Marathon 2007

these two cams are great

produces amazing pictures

couldn't ask for more from them

but then

they're used only for specific purposes

i use to carry my G9 for my travel trips for all the video-ing

and other random snapshots

the G9 has thus been replaced with the D10 for my travel compact cam

it's more versatile,

and the best thing is

it can shoot underwater :)

so for now,

the G9 will rest in the dry box

and the D10 will definitely be with me if i happen to go to beaches or swimmings for now

see these two camera

despite it's quality

is still a little too big for me

that's when i began researching and finding around a compact compact camera

ultra compact camera those kind

i want a small, good, quality, compact camera

so that i can have a camera with me

just for the usual casual snapshots with friends

or for those moments i had always wished i have a camera with me

then

i considered

the Lumix LX 3

i'm comfortable with its price

the size was ok

slightly slimmer than the G9

and produces amazing quality

i went down to look at its actual size

= too big

the lens doesn't retract back in

bulky still in my ultra compact camera category

that's when i further research for a compact camera

somehow

i've never considered sony

i don't know why

and when i saw the Leica C Lux 3

I FEEL IN LOVE immediately !

went down to take a look

did test shots

and was blown away !!!

here's the new member of my camera and lenses family !

my very first Leica :)

i'm looking forward to some amazing HD videos and pictures from it in the near future !

well, the SIM Arts Festival 2009 was just over :)

a few months of hard work

lots of hours spent in front of this computer

all paid off

happily

it's finally over !

tomorrow = full rest day !

wohoo !

anyway,

for this event

i'm:

main arts fest committee (designer + conceptualizer) and president of the sim photography club both at once

designed some more than 50 pieces of art works for this event

which i think i shall share later later on

and for the photography club

i organized a charity fund-raising photography exhibition

which turned out to be pretty not bad at all !

raised the amount twice that i've targeted !

this explains

the super busy past month

and so

i shall show u some pictures of the arts festival !

all taken during the very last day of the arts fest !

i kinda feel i'm a different person behind the camera

the mood and all the tiredness will disappear

for a while

and it's those moments that make my life complete

the curves of the camera and lens on my hands

viewfinder at the eye

and everything seems to stop

time flies

and for those short moments

i can be at peace

doing what i do best

and so i tried to do what i thought i could

turning two sweet looking models into a rebellious looking teen

which i failed miserably

may be i just wasn't at my optimum condition

i sincerely apologies for that girls :(

but then again again

you guys were great regardless !

and the shoot, though totally went off of the theme i wanted

turned out to be pretty not bad at all :)

4.20 p.m. : went in for a tour and a lookout first. came out for some coconut while waiting for the sun to set.

at this dance, again i wanted to capture movements

6.40 a.m. : dropped my quick release plate into the rocks. can put my hand through the holes to get it but won't be able to see my hand. saw an animal moving right near it. a snake the previous time i was here. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

7.03 a.m. : i think i just saw a really young crab squirt something out. not shooting. just enjoying the time watching people instead. still sitting near my quick release plate. ZZZZ

7.20 a.m. : lots of old uncles and aunties soaking themselves in the water. wives scrubbing their husbands' back.

7.34 a.m. : heading to the toilet. some indo girls asked me if they can get a shot with me. they grabbed two. must be thinking i'm some jap again -.-"

1.47 p.m. : started to rain damn heavily. lucky me, visited pura ulun danu yesterday

2.02 p.m. : left the warung. definitely a place not recommended. damn dirty. flies everywhere !! i had to eat with one hand kept fanning those fly away ! darn it !

2.40 p.m. : sky is really looking unfriendly

2.45 p.m. : stopping by for coffee coz driver say he's damn sleepy -.-"

3.00 p.m. : left the warung by the road. back on road !

3.45 p.m. : reached tanah lot. 3 times i've been here. RAINS EACH AND EVERYTIME !! ZZZ

4.02 p.m. : stopped by Cafe Santai for some coconut

5.55 p.m. : headache and really really tired. i've almost finished off some 16gb of memory card :| may be because i've shot more in RAW this time round

6.08 p.m. : saw a bat on the way back. too tired to even change the lens. how i wish i can travel light but still have all the gears to support my needs.

- : fell asleep unknowingly last night. forgot to set the alarm clock. woke up late.

5.55 a.m. : rushed through the toilet. Bang Bagus ran up to my room and bang the door like nobody's business to wake me up.

6.08 a.m. : no bathing. will be late for sunrise. sky's looking really cloudy. leaving hotel.

6.12 a.m. : sunrise direction's sky turn slightly golden. darn it. am still on the way !

6.26 a.m. : realized that i left the TV on last night before i sleep. as i was watching some show when i was cleaning the lenses. why was it off when i woke up ?

6.47 a.m. : wind blowing darn strong. so damn cold again. started shooting nonetheless.

8.05 a.m. : leaving the beach. waking up late results in a not so bad sunrise after all.

8.55 a.m. : reached hotel. bathe. charge batt. laze around.

10.05 a.m. : begin packing to leave hotel

have been busy drawing and drawing

not so bad

lately, lots of inspiration for designs

i'm even already drawing up for my indonesian's independence day tribute thing

but haven't done yet though

but these days, what take up most of my time is definitely the designs for arts festival

i've been working days and nights since the day i got back to singapore from bali

pretty darn productive

which is good

turning into some workaholic some say

which is making me having very little sleeps

the way i work is that when i'm inspired to do something

especially design / post-processing stuffs

once they come

i can never stop till i complete it

i'm not the type who can easily stop when i'm having my momentum

i think

most of my designs pieces are done within the day

be it some 1 hour work

or even some that's up to some 5 hours or more

i'll just be sitting here

only realizing that time has flew away when i'm complete

and then feeling extremely tired after it

anyway

introducing isaac !

a painter i drew for the upcoming Arts Festival

lots of design pieces to be done for it !

and am apparently quite excited

since somehow

i'm like now full of inspirations on things to draw

no time to shoot

i channeled my creativity on drawing them out

so, to make my work easier and faster

4.12 a.m. : head down to hotel lobby. was told that the journey to Candidasa will take quite some time.

4.15 a.m. : driver not here yet. he's 15 mins late.

4.35 a.m. : finally he's here. heading out to Candidasa

5.45 a.m. : reached Candidasa

5.53 a.m. : reached the beach, waiting for sunrise

6.03 a.m. : no sunrise yet. found out that my view of the sun will be blocked by an island on the left. decided to head to the sea instead for some snorkeling since i'm already here.

6.12 a.m. : shoot a little bit as the boat guy fella prepared his boat.

6.20 a.m. : heading off to sea. was told that at times there'll be some dolphin around. never heard of any of them at Candidasa. but well, the locals should know best.

6.25 a.m. : started shooting with the D10

was told that this bird used to be living on this tree for a while before it was struck by thunder. it moved on the island beside it after that to build a new nest. the pretty thing is, it'll keep coming back on this tree. it flew away as i got nearer.

so after some dessert at the cafe,

3.10 p.m. : i started moving down and shoot again along the way down.

3.35 : stop by a painting gallery, still within the rice fields compound. chatted with an English woman. She said I look like some Jap.

3.45 : reached the car park. heading off to the next destination.

4.48 : pass by Jimbaran, sky's looking very unsure.

4.54 : saw KFC Coffee -.-" follo mc cafe ?

Dreamland Beach

5.10 : reached

5.24 : lost Rp 20,000 to the security guard claiming this and that. doesn't wanna make matter worst. just hand him Rp 10,000 when then his friend came out and began talking more crap. *always put some spare small change in ur pocket instead of just dumping every class in your wallet.

5.45 : began shooting

6.10 : 50d ran out of batt. Forgot to bring Spare !!! still left it in my luggage. Felt damn shitty. Video around. Got an idea. Used the D10 + my nd8 Filter to shoot.

6.42 : literally no one else were shooting. beach almost empty. been the only one with a tripod. felt super tired. decided to walk back to the car.

9.26 a.m. : Reached back at Janur Garden Hotel

9.28 a.m. : Reached room to find out that the hotel staffs are cleaning my room. Waited outside.

10.10 a.m. : Done bathing and cleaning the D10, heading out to next location.

10.19 a.m. : On the way to Ubud for lunch and the Rice Terraces the driver recommended me.

- : Sleep the entire way to Ubud

11.30 : Reached Adi Asri Restaurant for Lunch

12.27 p.m. : Done with lunch, heading off to next destination.

12.35 a.m. : Reached Sari Organik for its rice fields.

12.40 a.m. : Begin Shooting.

1.51 p.m. : Reached the cafe in the middle of all these rice fields for some rest.

7.53 a.m. : pick the camera back up and start shooting again

8.09 a.m. : saw a dead dog awash the shore

bali really is indeed also a land of so many dogs

even the sea must have a few of them

9.11 a.m. : fired the last shot at Sanur Beach and headed back to the hotel

*my very first morning at Bali had been really quite disappointing

randomly shooting around

sitting by the beach watching people

shooting whatever i found interesting

but nothing that spectacular at all : /

and so i tried hard to sleep

but couldn't

the exciting were really there...

and i could barely sleep

fell asleep at around 3+ finally and woke up at 4 to get myself prepared

and that was the time that i thought i heard sound of the rain

went straight to the balcony

nope

just the wind

and as the time further went by

the sound of the wind got further stronger

and that was when i had the fear

that it'll actually rain

throughout my entire bali trip, i had kept a time to time note to myself on what's happening, so here, i present to you too, exactly what i felt and what was happening in its timely manner.

4.45 a.m. : head down to the car park to wait to be fetched by the driver. he's not early. he's no where around. it had began to drizzle a while ago. my worst nightmare is beginning to come true. remained positive though. sunrise after a rain and strong wind can be really nice at times.

5.00 a.m. : drizzling stopped walked down again to check if Bang Bagus, my driver, has arrived on time as promised.

5.05 a.m. : no sign of him, walked back to the room to do a video of me entering the hotel room

5.12 a.m. : decided to just head down and wait for him there.

5.14 a.m. : Bang Bagus arrived. a little introduction and off we head to my very first location. the drizzle starts again as we headed off.

5.30 a.m. : reached Sanur Beach. rained heavily like mad.

5.50 a.m. : i'm told that this is the first time in this month that it had rained in the morning. completely devastated.

6.00 a.m. : no sign of the rain stopping. feeling super cold. darn me for not packing a jacket with me.

6.05 a.m. : looked around, dark clouds everywhere. just hoping the rain will stop so at least i can still get a few shots before it gets brighter.

6.10 a.m. : much brighter now, lesser wind. examining my view points. no sunrise today :(

6.15 a.m. : fired the first shot of the day despite the drizzle.

6.22 a.m. : finally the rain stopped ! begin to shoot around !

7.22 a.m. : got hungry. video as i walk to the nearby "warung" for a breakfast break.

7.26 a.m. : breakfast break

had a simple nasi lemak and a cup of coffee.

so, 19 july

i set off

and oh

anyway

i bought a d10

the new canon powershot that can do underwater

for the trip

haha

and so yeah

tried this camera throughout the entire of this trip

so far

i think the result not so bad

haha

but dunno yet

haven't got into the night shot

and haven't really begin serious editing

singapore - bali flight is a 2 hours flight

forgot to buy a mag before i leave

so i was all left with playing the ipod touch during the entire trip

1 hour++ into the flight

the touch came out

20% batt power left

-.-"

worms at the ipod touch seriously consume power like a pig

so then i shoot around outside the window lor

then not long after that

the sunset time came

i was like

wtf !

i'm heading towards the east !

if i'm heading towards the north

then it'd be just nice !

the sun will be at my left side !

so now the sun is right behind me

but then

seeing this kinda sky kinda make me :D :D :D

yes ~~!!

i'm greeted with sun a nice sunset !

though can't really see it properly coz it should be right behind me

but judging from the sky around it

it should be one hell of a sunset !

then after

sky got kinda dark

haven't even arrive yet -.-"

so i went toilet

and snapped off a pic

haha

not long after that

i arrived d

got fetched by a cousin there

then we headed to his place

as he offered his place for me to bump into during my stays there

but then

as i felt

my trip is gonna be a trip that'll require me to leave at unsound hours

i've decided to book a hotel instead

so as to not disturb people la

so after his place

we went for dinner

and right after that is the hotel that i stay at

stayed at Sanur

quite a room for its price i think

it's just like ridiculous that i kinda have to top up an extra Rp. 50,000 to have a room with warm water

thinking that i'll be leaving early in the hours of the day

warm shower is something i'll definitely need

as i is one who is afraid of the cold

then

got myself settled

and went to bed

and try to sleep d

well, last night was the night shoot

today is kinda more of the actual shoot

i'm so darn tired

and as much as i love where my life is going nowadays,

i seriously still think i'll need a day of full sleeping before i can have the energy to proceed on further
